UP: Criminal involved in jeweller's murder killed, brother arrested in police encounter

Agra (UP), May 6 (UNI) A criminal involved in armed robbery at a jewellery shop and murder of it's owner in Sikandara area of Agra here in Uttar Pradesh was killed in an encounter with the police, whereas his brother was arrested on Tuesday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that armed robbers looted Balaji Jewelers located at Kargil crossing in Sikandara area four days ago. "When the showroom owner Yogesh Chaudhary resisted he was shot dead by the robbers," they said.

Police sources said that on Tuesday morning the Sikandara police received information that the miscreants were hiding in the flats being built in Ansal API. "When the police cordoned off the flat, one of the miscreants opened fire on the police team," they said.

Police sources said that in the retaliatory firing by the police the miscreant identified as Aman, a resident of Maghtai in Bichpuri, sustained bullet injury. "He was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead," they said.

Police sources said that the police cordoned off the flat and arrested Aman's brother Sumit, who was also involved in the incident, from there. "The third accused Farooq is absconding," they said.

Police sources said that four days ago when the incident took place, Sumit provided the bike to Aman and Farooq. "Sumit himself was standing far away at the time of the incident," they said.

Police sources said that Farooq and Aman had entered Balaji Jewellery showroom near Kargil square.

"While fleeing after the robbery, Aman shot Yogesh alias Yogendra dead. The miscreants decamped with jewellery and cash worth about Rs 20 lakh," they said.

The traders of the city were agitated about this robbery and murder that took place in broad daylight. They had given a 72-hour ultimatum to the police administration and warned them to come out on the streets and protest.

The traders had warned that if the miscreants were not arrested by Monday evening, they would keep Agra closed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the police administration had activated about 2,000 personnel in the form of different teams to arrest the miscreants.
