UP govt procures record over 9.26 lakh MT of wheat

Lucknow, May 8 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has once again set a new record in wheat procurement and reaffirmed its commitment to farmer welfare and food security, official sources said here on Thursday.
Sources said that as of May 8, the state has procured an impressive 9.26 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from over 1.73 lakh farmers through 5,852 purchase centres, marking a significant jump from the 6.88 lakh metric tonnes procured during the same period last year.
Sources said that this procurement drive has provided direct financial benefit to 173,381 farmers, out of 446,725 registered for the season, with over Rs 2,045 crore already disbursed seamlessly into their bank accounts under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. "The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat has been fixed at Rs 2,425 per quintal for the 2025–26 Rabi season, ensuring farmers are compensated fairly and promptly," they said.
Sources said that the wheat procurement campaign for the Rabi marketing season began on March 17 and will continue till June 15, giving ample time for farmers across the state to participate. "More than just numbers, this record-breaking performance reflects the Yogi government's pro-farmer governance model, characterised by expanded procurement infrastructure, tech-enabled monitoring and zero tolerance for middlemen," they said.
Sources said that real-time tracking and enhanced transparency and accountability through tech-enabled systems have enabled smooth operations across all regions.
"The state's administration continues to work on increasing daily procurement rates to ensure that no eligible farmer is left out," they said.
Sources said that with the procurement season still ongoing, UP is not only setting new records but also cementing its position as a national leader in agricultural procurement, efficient public distribution and rural economic empowerment.
