Dehradun, May 1 (UNI) The Uttarakhand police have arrested six members of an international gang allegedly involved in online betting here during IPL cricket matches, an officer said on Thursday.
Large sums of money, computers, and mobile phones were seized from the arrested persons
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh, a raid was conducted at a flat in Kozy Nest Home Stay, Rajpur area, based on a tip-off. Six persons were arrested, and a significant amount of cash, laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices were recovered.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Chetan Sharma, Shakti Singh, Dheeraj Sharma, Nishant, Karan, and Sohan Singh, all residents of Delhi.
The SSP revealed that the online betting network is operated from Dubai, and the accused had come to Dehradun from Delhi to facilitate betting during Wednesday's IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings.
The accused have been booked under Section 3/4 of the Gambling Act at the Rajpur police station, and their bank accounts have been frozen due to the presence of crores of rupees in them. The police are further investigating the matter. UNI XC AKT SSP
