Waqf Amendment Bill direct attack on spirit of Constitution: RJD

New Delhi, April 2 (UNI) RJD MP Sudhakar Singh on Wednesday slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre over the waqf Board Amendment Bill, saying the legislation was a "direct attack" on the basic spirit of the Constitution.
"This Bill is not merely a draft law but a direct attack on the basic spirit of our Constitution", said Sudhakar Singh while speaking on the Bill in the Lok Sabha.
He said the Bill was against the "democratic principles, ideals of secularism and the pluralistic culture of India".
Accusing the NDA government, he said since the BJP came to power, there have been continuous attacks on minority institutions.
"The parties of the INDIA alliance have repeatedly said that constitutional values are being weakened under the rule of the BJP government." he added.
He requested the government to withdraw the bill immediately.
He termed the institution of Waqf as a set of legal provisions which reflects the deep beliefs, traditions and social responsibilities of the community professing Islam.
"In the last ten years, ever since the BJP-led NDA government came to power, The BJP pretends to be minority friendly, but it does not have a single Muslim MP in the Parliament of India. This makes it clear how minority friendly they are" he said.
RJD MP blamed that today they have their eyes on the land of the minority community and tomorrow they may conspire to capture the properties of other religious institutions as well.
"If this process continues, then in the future attempts will be made to acquire the land of temples and their wealth as well" he added.
