Waqf Board's unlawful capture of private and temple lands will be stopped: Minister Bawankule

Mumbai, Mar 21(UNI) Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrasekhar Bawankule on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that if it is found that the Waqf Board has grabbed any private and temple land, those will be taken away.
Complaints are being made in many places in the state about land grabbing by the Waqf Board. The work of enacting a law in this regard is underway at the central level, he said.
He was responding to a Lakshavedi in the Legislative Assembly by MLA Gopichand Padalkar, MLA Monica Rajle and MLA Devrao Bhongle regarding making temple lands Class 1, encroachment on government lands and forest rights.
Revenue Minister Bawankule said, the state government has seriously considered this issue and a special committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the principal secretary of the revenue department.
He informed that the government will introduce a law in the legislature after the recommendations of this committee.
Bawankule also said that although the cabinet has discussed the decision to get some land back to farmers in Marathwada, an actual law has to be passed.
Along with farmers' lands, the issue of encroachment on the temple's prize lands was also discussed in the session.
MLA Rajle raised her voice on the encroachment of shrines in various parts of Maharashtra. She pointed out that there were unauthorized constructions on temple sites in many places including Nagpur, Rahuri, Srirampur and Kolhar.
On this, Bawankule said that a strict law will be introduced soon to prevent encroachment by directing the local administration and police system to remove the encroachment.
