YISU, Telangana organises consultative workshop

Hyderabad, Mar 22 (UNI) Young India Skills University (YISU), Telangana, on Saturday organised a Consultative Workshop with principals and vice-principals of autonomous government degree colleges across the state.

The workshop organised here focused on integrating skill-based education into degree programs to enhance students' employability and industry readiness.

Around 40 principals and vice-principals representing 33 autonomous government degree colleges participated in the discussions.

The event was chaired by YISU Vice Chancellor, V L V S S Subba Rao, who presented various models for incorporating skill-based courses into existing college curricula. He outlined different affiliation mechanisms, including dedicating a classroom for skill courses, faculty facilitation by colleges, or YISU managing the entire course structure, from curriculum design to industry-led training and internships.

The principals responded positively to the initiative, recognizing its potential to improve job prospects for students. They suggested that formal approval from the Department of Higher Education would be essential to institutionalize skill-based courses and ensure proper coordination with affiliating universities.
They also advocated for a decentralized approach, allowing colleges to offer apprenticeship-based degree courses aligned with local industry demands.

YISU agreed to take up the matter with the State Education Department to seek necessary approvals for skill education programs. Senior officials, including Chaman Mehta, OSD & Registrar Incharge, YISU, Dr Bala Bhaskar, Academic Guidance Officer, Commissionerate of College Education, and Joint Directors Prof. Yadagiri and Prof. Rajendra Singh, participated in the workshop, contributing valuable insights, an official statement said.
