Zojila pass reopens after 32 days reconnecting Kashmir and Ladakh

Srinagar, Apr 1 (UNI) The strategic Zojila Pass, a critical lifeline connecting Ladakh and Kashmir, was reopened on Tuesday after a brief 32-day closure.
This marks one of the shortest winter closure for this vital route which serves as a lifeline for Ladakh.
The reopening was officially declared by Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, who commended the tireless efforts of Project Beacon and Project Vijayak under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for their dedication in restoring the vital route.
The pass, often closed during harsh winter months due to heavy snowfall and treacherous conditions, is a crucial artery for military, civilian, and supply movements.
Lt Gen Srinivasan praised the relentless work of BRO engineers and workers who braved extreme weather and challenging terrain to clear the snow and ensure safe passage.
"Braving extreme terrain and weather conditions, BRO once again reconnected Kargil and Leh by painstakingly clearing unsurmountable snow walls at Zojila Pass on Srinagar Leh Highway today," BRO said .
In a brief ceremony to mark the event, the first convoy was flagged off by Mohd Hanefa Jan, MP Ladakh and DGBR in the presence of GOCs Chinar and Fire and Fury Corps.

The reopening of Zojila Pass is expected to, and ensure the movement of essential goods and services to Ladakh.
