‘Campus to Booth’ campaign launched to enrol young voters in electoral rolls

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6 (UNI) The Election Department in Kerala has launched a special week-long campaign to encourage eligible students aged 17 and above in schools and colleges to register themselves in the electoral rolls, with Chief Electoral Officer Dr Sajith Babu inaugurating the initiative at Government Arts College here on Friday.
The campaign, titled ‘Campus to Booth’ and carrying the tagline ‘Step Forward, Get Counted’, began on November 2 and seeks to familiarise young citizens with the electoral registration process while promoting greater participation in democracy.
Dr Sajith Babu, IAS, inaugurated the programme at Government Arts College at 11 am and later interacted with students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Peroorkada, highlighting the importance of voter registration and the role of young people in strengthening democratic institutions.
Under the initiative, students in higher secondary schools and colleges who have attained or are about to attain the eligible age can submit applications for inclusion in the electoral rolls using Form 6. The facility is intended to help young citizens complete the enrolment process well in advance so that they can exercise their franchise once they become eligible.
The drive is being implemented across the state in association with educational institutions, with Electoral Literacy Clubs playing a key role in mobilising students and conducting voter awareness activities.
District Collectors have been instructed to take necessary steps to ensure maximum student participation in the enrolment and awareness programmes.
The initiative is part of the Election Department's broader efforts to build electoral awareness among young people and encourage them to take an active role in the democratic process from an early age.
