ECI approves restructuring of polling stations in Keralam; total rises to 30,682

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the Kerala government's proposal to restructure polling stations across the state, increasing their total number from 30,471 to 30,682 to facilitate smoother election management and provide greater convenience to voters.
As part of the exercise, 216 new polling stations have been set up, while five existing stations have been merged. The locations of 178 polling station buildings have also been changed following a review of the existing arrangements.
With these changes, Keralam will have a total of 30,682 polling stations for electoral purposes.
The restructuring was undertaken after assessing the number of voters attached to each polling station, availability of basic infrastructure, accessibility for voters and the geographical features of different areas.
The new polling stations and changes in existing locations have been made in accordance with the norms prescribed by the ECI, including the stipulated maximum number of voters permitted at each polling station.
The respective District Collectors will take further steps to implement the revised arrangements, official sources said.
