11 dead in separate incidents in East Champaran ahead of Jitiya festival (LEADS CA 18)

Motihari, Oct 2 (UNI) At least eleven people died in separate incidents at different places in East Champaran district on the eve of the Jitiya festival on Friday.
According to the report from Motihari, four minor girls drowned while taking a bath in a pond at Inarwabhar panchayat under Paharpur police station, they said.
The deceased were identified as Sonamati (13) and Phoolmati (10), daughters of Pramod Mahto; Sonali Kumari (10), daughter of Virendra Mahto; and Pratima Kumari (12), daughter of Achhelal Paswan.
According to the family members, the tragedy struck when Pramod Mahto's two daughters had gone to the pond, located a short distance from their house, along with some neighbouring girls to take a bath.
In another incident, three youth drowned in floodwaters along the road leading to Model Police Station building in Banjariya Jatwa under Banjariya police station. With the help of divers, the bodies of all three were fished out, police said.
The deceased were identified as Yash Raj (17), son of Vinod Kumar Singh, Samir Dewan (20), son of Bashir Dewan, and Shakeel Ansari (17), son of Saheb Ansari, all residents of Chailaha Taal. Their bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital, Motihari, for post-mortem examination.
In another incident, 14-year-old Kajal Kumari, daughter of Rambabu Sah, died after falling into a pond in Nimuiya village under Ghorasahan police station. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Sunita Devi was allegedly murdered at Kalwari Manjhariya under Adapur police station. Injury marks were found on her neck and chest, sources said.
In Raghunathpur police station area, 15-year-old Nandani Kumari allegedly committed suicide by hanging.
In another incident, 45-year-old Krishna Sah, a resident of Nazirva village under Lakhaura police station, died after being run over by a train in the Raxaul police station area.
East Champaran District Magistrate Saurabh Suman Yadav expressed grief over the deaths.
He told UNI that immediate assistance under the Kabir Antyeshti scheme had been provided to the families of the four girls who drowned in Paharpur. In addition, cheques for financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each under the disaster management provisions had been sent to the bereaved families.
He said the families of the other four persons who died by drowning would also be provided assistance after completion of the necessary statutory formalities.
