Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya to visit Varanasi to explore investment opportunities

Kolkata, Oct 2 (UNI) The Centre is seeking to strengthen economic and connectivity links between West Bengal and Varanasi, with the union Budget proposing a dedicated corridor to improve connectivity between the two destinations.
With the BJP now in power in Bengal, the initiative is expected to gain further momentum.
Against this backdrop, state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya is scheduled to visit Varanasi ahead of Durga Puja, with investment and business opportunities in Bengal likely to feature prominently during his visit.
According to party sources, Bhattacharya is expected to leave for Varanasi on Saturday. The city, renowned for its Banarasi silk, has a sizable Bengali business community and several Bengali-run enterprises. The state BJP president is likely to meet representatives of these businesses to discuss prospects for investment in West Bengal.
He is also expected to hold meetings with entrepreneurs and stakeholders associated with the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector in Varanasi. A meeting with members of the Bengali community living in Uttar Pradesh is also part of his proposed programme.
Sources said Bhattacharya may explore creating a commercial initiative linking Bengal’s traditional handloom and saree industry with Varanasi’s globally recognised Banarasi sarees. Such a collaboration, if pursued, could provide a platform for businesses from the two regions to explore new markets and opportunities.
The Varanasi visit is part of Bhattacharya’s broader efforts to attract investment to West Bengal since the BJP formed the government in the state. He has travelled to several destinations, including Delhi and Mumbai, as well as locations in Europe, to interact with business leaders and explore investment opportunities.
The BJP has repeatedly attributed the perceived slowdown in Bengal’s industrial growth over the past 15 years to the previous Trinamul Congress government. The new administration has made attracting investment and reviving the state’s industrial sector one of its stated priorities.
Party sources said Bhattacharya’s Varanasi visit is aimed at strengthening business-to-business links and presenting West Bengal as an investment destination. With the visit coming just before the festive season, the state BJP leadership sees it as an opportunity to explore new commercial partnerships and bring fresh investment proposals to Bengal.
The visit also assumes significance against the backdrop of the Centre’s proposed connectivity initiative involving Bengal and Varanasi, which the state BJP believes could facilitate greater movement of people, goods and business between the two regions. UNI RC NST CDS
