13,900 students compete in Panchkula reasoning championship, 96 reach district finals

Panchkula, Oct 8 (UNI) As many as 13,900 schoolchildren participated in a 45-day competition aimed at strengthening logical reasoning, mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills, with 96 students qualifying for the district-level Puzzle and Pattern Championship 2026 held here on Thursday.
Organised under the Nipun Panchkula Mission, the competition covered school, cluster and block-level rounds before culminating in the district finale at Chitkara International School, Sector 28.
Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, who attended the event, called for a shift from rote memorisation to reasoning-based learning, particularly at the primary school level.
"These initiatives inspire children to think, understand, reason, and discover solutions on their own," Dhanda said, appreciating the district education department's initiative.
The final round followed a rapid-response format inspired by Kaun Banega Crorepati, testing students through numerical sequences, visual patterns, logical puzzles and problem-solving questions.
GPS Sarthak emerged champion, with its team comprising Vihan, Amarpali Gautam, Panshul Tanwar and Shaurya Bora. GMSPS Abaypur, represented by Deepak Prakash, Rikki Kumar, Anurag and Aryan, secured second place, while GMSPS Sector 4, Panchkula, comprising Mayank Sahu, Aditya Kumar, Sachin and Dhanak, finished third.
District Elementary Education Officer Suman Chaudhary supervised the competition, while Nodal Officer and District Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Coordinator Asindra Kumar developed its framework and learning activities. District Project Coordinator Jogindra Lather, Deputy District Education Officers Ramesh Batra and Narottam Sharma, and other senior education officials attended the event.
Officials said the initiative was designed to strengthen foundational numeracy, analytical abilities and independent thinking among young learners, moving classroom education beyond memorisation-based assessment.
