18 Year Old Tigress Bijalee Dies At Sanjay Gandhi National Park After Health Decline

Mumbai, Sept 17 (UNI) Tigress Bijalee, known as T2, died at Mumbai’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park on Wednesday night at the age of around 18 years and four months, with park officials attributing her death to age-related health complications. She had been living at the Borivali-based national park since 2016.
According to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park administration, Bijalee died at around 9:45 pm on September 16 after her health had deteriorated over recent weeks. Officials said her condition had been affected by age-related problems.
The park authorities had noticed a gradual reduction in Bijalee’s food intake from last month. Her health was subsequently monitored closely, and veterinary treatment and supportive care were provided under the guidance of the Technical Veterinary Advisory Team of Western Maharashtra.
Despite continued medical attention, supportive treatment and regular monitoring by the veterinary team, her condition did not improve, and she died on Wednesday night, the administration said.
Bijalee had arrived at Sanjay Gandhi National Park from Pench Tiger Reserve on July 11, 2016. She remained under the care of the park for more than a decade and became a familiar animal for visitors as well as the veterinary and animal care teams.
While the park administration has indicated age-related health complications as the reason for her death, officials said a standard post-mortem examination would be carried out to determine the exact cause.
Following her death, SGNP appealed to wildlife enthusiasts and visitors who had encountered Bijalee or photographed her during her years at the park to share their pictures and memories on social media as a tribute.
Bijalee’s death brings to an end her long association with Sanjay Gandhi National Park, where she had remained under care since 2016.
