23-year-old Delhi Police recruitment candidate dies during physical test

New Delhi, Sep 21 (UNI) A 23-year-old man died after collapsing while taking part in a race as part of the Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PEMT) for Delhi Police recruitment at the Delhi Police Academy in Wazirabad on Monday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Saurabh Kumar, a resident of Anupshahr in Uttar Pradesh. According to police, Kumar was among the candidates appearing for the ongoing physical test when he suddenly fell on the track during the race.
Police received information about the incident at around 11.11 am after the candidate was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital in a PCR vehicle from the academy. He was rushed to the emergency department after receiving immediate medical assistance at the test venue.
However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead, police said.
Following the incident, Kumar’s body was sent to GTB Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police said the autopsy would help establish the precise cause of death.
A case of inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been initiated at Sonia Vihar police station, officials said.
