668 secure jobs at Gurugram employment fair; Become job creators, Haryana minister challenges youth

Gurugram, Oct 26 (UNI) As many as 668 young job aspirants secured on-the-spot placements at a mega employment fair in Gurugram on Monday, but Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh delivered a larger message to the state's youth: move beyond the race for salaried jobs, acquire industry-ready skills and become entrepreneurs capable of generating employment for others.
The district-level job fair, organised at Government Women's College in Sector 14, attracted 1,456 candidates and 65 companies. While 980 candidates were shortlisted, 668 secured placements, highlighting both the employment opportunities available and the importance of matching qualifications with industry requirements.
Addressing the gathering, Singh said Haryana's expanding industrial sector offered young people opportunities not only to secure jobs but also to establish enterprises and become employers themselves. "If you only prepare to be employees, you will miss the real opportunity. Upgrade your practical knowledge, own your skills, and establish ventures that create employment," the minister said.
He stressed that rapidly changing industrial requirements demanded continuous skill development, practical knowledge and the ability to adapt to emerging technologies.
The minister urged youngsters to look beyond conventional career choices and explore entrepreneurship, describing enterprise creation as an important driver of employment and economic growth.
Linking youth entrepreneurship to the national development agenda, Singh said the younger generation would have a crucial role in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Calling for a stronger link between technical education and industry requirements, Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma said Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) must continuously update their curricula to ensure students acquire skills that employers actually need.
The employment fair brought recruiters and job aspirants together on a single platform, enabling companies to assess candidates and offer placements directly.
The recruitment figures also highlighted the continuing need to strengthen industry-academia coordination and expand employment-oriented training for young people entering the workforce.
Singh said employment fairs, skill development and entrepreneurship must work together to ensure that Haryana's industrial expansion translates into greater opportunities for its youth.
He also appealed to youngsters to support environmental protection by avoiding single-use plastics and contributing to efforts to make Gurugram cleaner.
