Aaditya Thackeray Enters Police Station Demanding That Name Of Sena Man's Murder Suspect Be Included In FIR

Mumbai, Sept 30 (UNI) Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray reached Thane, near Mumbai on Wednesday night, entered the police station and demanded that the name of all suspects allegedly involved in the murder of his Thane party leader Pradeep Purnekar must be included in the police first information report (FIR).
A tense silence prevails in the Manorama Nagar area after the murder, and a curfew was imposed in the area on Wednesday. Shops and three schools in the area have also remained closed, since the murdered Sena leader is known to have a large following in the area. The police seized CCTV footage of the crime scene and nine teams have been dispatched to search for the attackers.
Meanwhile, the body of Pradeep Purnekar has been kept at JJ Hospital in Mumbai for autopsy (postmortem), even as the Punekar family took a vow not to cremate the body until the accused are arrested.
Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut was also present at the Kapurbawdi police station in Thane, when Aaditya Thackeray demanded that the police must include the names of the suspects in the FIR.
Pradeep Punekrar, a divisional head of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in Thane, was shot dead on Tuesday night. The incident created a huge stir in political circles after which the Uddhav-led Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut met the Purnekar family. They reached the Kapurbawdi police station and discussed the matter with the police officers. Aaditya Thackeray has demanded that the police officers mention the names of Thane-basd Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena leaders Meenakshi Shinde and Rajendra Shinde in the police FIR.
They also alleged that Eknath Shinde-led Sena leaders Meenakshi Shinde and Rajendra Shinde are being protected by the police. The Purnekar family and Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut demanded that the main suspect be arrested. “If immediate action is not taken, we will take this mob and go to the residences of the suspected accused,” Sanjay Raut said at the police station. Raut demanded that the suspected accused should be arrested immediately and further action should be initiated.
A large crowd of Purnekar supporters and family members gathered outside the Kapurbawdi police station. The police stopped the supporters and family members at the gate of the police station. The Purnekar family members stated that they will not take possession of Pradeep Purnekar's body until the main accused are arrested. Due to this tense atmosphere, a large police contingent was deployed outside the Kapurbawdi police station. Pradeep Purnekar's body is scheduled to be brought to the Kapurbawdi police station from JJ Hospital after the autopsy (postmortem)
Narrating the entire incident, Pradeep Purnekar's brother Jayanath said, “On Tuesday night, we were collecting donations in the area for the Navratri festival. At that time, Pradeep was in his office. At around 9:32 pm, some unknown person came to his office and fired seven rounds from a pistol. Two of the bullets hit Pradeep, killing him on the spot”.
According to Jayanath Purnekar, Pradeep always worked for the welfare of the society and especially against narcotic drug dealers in the area. This was reiterated by Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha Sanjay Raut as well. “When Pradeep came to know that narcotic drugs were being sold in his area, he would often go there alone at night. He had also received many threats. The reason behind this murder is a political dispute with Eknath Shinde-led Sena leaders Rajendra Shinde and Meenakshi Shinde. The attackers and Rajendra Shinde had a meeting in a building,” Pradeep Purnekar's brother Jayanath claimed.
The Purnekar family claimed that the murder was planned long ago. “Pradeep had no personal dispute with the attackers. No one would dare to do such a thing unless he had the political support of a big person. He had come here during the Ganpati era and done Reiki and was looking for the right opportunity. I had warned Pradeep many times that these people can do anything by using narcotic drug dealers, but yesterday three people came and hatched the plan,” Pradeep Purnekar's brother Jayanath claimed.
