Abhishek joins Kohli at top of India's T20 century chart after 30-ball blitz

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) India opener Abhishek Sharma joined Virat Kohli at the top of the country's all-time T20 century chart after smashing a breathtaking 30-ball hundred against Afghanistan in the third and final T20 International here on Thursday.
Abhishek's third T20I century took his tally of hundreds across all T20 cricket to 10, drawing him level with Kohli for the most T20 centuries by an Indian batsman.
KL Rahul, Sanju Samson and Rohit Sharma follow with eight T20 centuries each.
The landmark came in spectacular fashion as Abhishek tore apart Afghanistan's bowling attack, reaching his hundred in just 30 balls.
His century also made him the fastest T20I centurion among batsmen from Test-playing nations and erased India's previous record of 35 balls, held by Rohit Sharma against Sri Lanka at Indore in 2017.
Abhishek's 30-ball effort, however, was not the fastest T20I century overall. Estonia's Sahil Chauhan holds that record with a 27-ball hundred against Cyprus in 2024, followed by Turkey's Muhammad Fahad with a 29-ball century against Bulgaria in 2025.
Abhishek's assault was already extraordinary before he reached three figures. He smashed 76 off just 22 balls in the powerplay as India raced to 100 without loss in six overs.
The 76 was the highest individual score in the first six overs of a men's T20I, while he brought up his half-century in only 20 balls.
He then took the attack into the ninth over, smashing Abdullah Ahmadzai for a six to move to 99 before taking a single off the next delivery to complete his century.
Sanju Samson remained unbeaten on 24 off 14 balls and also reached 9,000 runs in T20 cricket, after surviving a dropped chance off Mohammad Nabi.
The India opening pair left Afghanistan's attack, including Rashid Khan, Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Fazalhaq Farooqi, struggling for answers.
