Record Abhishek ton powers visiting India to 3-0 sweep

New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Abhishek Sharma was the undisputed star as visiting India completed a 3-0 T20I series sweep over Afghanistan, the designated hosts, with a 127-run victory in the third and final match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here on Thursday.
Abhishek smashed a record-breaking 108 off just 34 balls, while Ravi Bishnoi and Nitish Kumar Reddy claimed three wickets each as India, despite playing as the visitors, dominated Afghanistan in a series staged in Delhi for security reasons in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bowl, but Abhishek immediately put their attack under pressure, powering India to 100 in the powerplay.
The left-handed opener reached his century in just 30 balls, hitting nine fours and 11 sixes in a breathtaking assault. He eventually made 108 off 34 balls at a strike rate of more than 317.
Sanju Samson provided able support at the other end, scoring 50 off 35 balls with two fours and four sixes. The pair added 142 runs before Afghanistan finally managed to break the partnership.
Abhishek was dismissed after his extraordinary assault, while Samson followed soon after at 164, having completed his second successive half-century.
Afghanistan fought back with wickets in the latter stages, with Shivam Dube making 14 off 10 balls before being caught by Rashid Khan off Azmatullah Omarzai. Ishan Kishan was run out for 10, while Nitish Kumar Reddy fell for one.
Captain Shreyas Iyer added a useful 29 off 20 balls, including two sixes, before being run out by Ibrahim Zadran as India finished on 221 for seven in 20 overs.
Chasing 222, Afghanistan struggled to keep pace with the required rate and were eventually bowled out for 94 in 14.1 overs.
Ibrahim Zadran top-scored with 25 off 16 balls, while Azmatullah Omarzai made 17 and Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributed 15.
Axar Patel triggered the collapse by bowling Gurbaz and then having Sediqullah Atal caught in the same over. Jasprit Bumrah followed with a pinpoint yorker to dismiss Darwish Rasooli for a first-ball duck.
Bishnoi removed Noor ul Rahman for 11 before Nitish Reddy produced a decisive burst, dismissing Mohammad Nabi, Omarzai and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to finish with three wickets for 25 runs.
Bishnoi then bowled Rashid Khan for six and completed the innings by having Abdullah Ahmadzai caught by Axar Patel for six.
Bishnoi finished with three for 26 and Axar two for nine, while Bumrah and Yash Thakur took one wicket each.
Afghanistan lost their last four wickets for just 12 runs as India wrapped up a comprehensive 127-run victory.
The result gave India a 3-0 sweep, with the visitors having won the opening two matches by seven wickets each. The series was played in Delhi, with Afghanistan retaining the host designation because of security-related considerations in their home country.
