ACB files chargesheet against postal assistant in a 2025 bribery case

Srinagar, Oct 19 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday filed a chargesheet against a Postal Assistant posted at Sub Post Office Bandipora for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,500 for the release of a subsidy under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
The chargesheet against accused Mudasir Ahmad Najar was presented before the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Baramulla following completion of the investigation, the ACB said.
ACB statement said a complaint was received at Police Station ACB Baramulla alleging that the accused had demanded illegal gratification from a beneficiary who had availed financial assistance through KVIC Pampore for his business unit in Bandipora.
The complainant was awaiting the release of a subsidy of Rs 1.75 lakh, subject to physical verification and geo-tagging by the accused, when the alleged demand was made.
Following discreet verification, the ACB registered a case in 2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
ACB said during the investigation, the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 6,500 from the complainant. He was subsequently arrested.
The ACB said the investigation established the allegations and that the competent authority had granted the requisite sanction for prosecution after examining the material on record.
