BJP alleges growing discontent within Congress, claims public anger against Himachal government rising

Shimla, Oct 19 (UNI) BJP Himachal Pradesh president Rajiv Bindal on Monday alleged growing discontent and internal contradictions within the Congress, claiming that public resentment against the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government was increasing across the state.
Addressing a media, Bindal said Chief Minister Sukhu and Congress leaders had been accusing the BJP of factionalism for the past four years to divert public attention from the alleged failures of their own government.
He said the differences within the Congress had now become evident and advised the Chief Minister to address problems within his own party rather than targeting the BJP.
Referring to the unveiling of the statue of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Bindal said the absence of Chief Minister Sukhu and state Congress president from the programme had raised questions about the internal dynamics of the ruling party.
He said Virbhadra Singh had served as Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh several times and his political contribution extended beyond any particular family or faction. The absence of senior Congress leaders from an event honouring such a prominent political figure, he alleged, reflected the contradictions within the party.
Bindal also referred to remarks by former state Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Pratibha Singh regarding the reported absence of Virbhadra Singh's photograph at a programme in Rohru. Pratibha Singh had said that removing his photograph could not erase him from the hearts of the people, he noted.
The BJP leader said the controversy surrounding Virbhadra Singh's photograph and the absence of senior leaders from related programmes had highlighted the discontent within the Congress.
He further alleged that the departure of six Congress legislators, who subsequently joined the BJP, was indicative of the internal differences within the ruling party. He claimed that disagreements had continued within the Congress government, while its leadership had avoided addressing the issues.
“The BJP's is united and will remain united. The Congress should worry about its own house,” Bindal said, adding that people in Himachal Pradesh had faced considerable hardships over the past four years and were increasingly dissatisfied with the government's functioning.
On organisational matters, Bindal said the BJP had held an important review meeting under the leadership of state party in-charge Shrikant Sharma to assess organisational expansion, booth-level strengthening and upcoming programmes.
He said the party was working to strengthen its organisation across nearly 8,000 polling booths in Himachal Pradesh. Experienced organisational workers had been deployed across 171 mandals, with the target of building teams of 50 to 75 workers at every polling booth.
Bindal said Sharma would undertake a ten-day organisational tour beginning from Rampur and covering tribal areas before reaching Bharmour.
He added that newly appointed state co-in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sudarshana Singh was scheduled to undertake an organisational tour of Kangra district from October 25 to 29.
