Actor Imran Khan to challenge Mumbai Police 'Quit India' notice in Bombay High Court

Mumbai, Oct 15 (UNI) Actor Imran Khan, the nephew of actor Aamir Khan, plans to move the Bombay High Court challenging a notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), which functions under the Mumbai police, asking him to leave the country by October 28, sources said here on Thursday.
His lawyers Zulfiquar Memon, Parvez Memon and Chirag Naik from MZM Legal LLP, who will approach the court soon, have termed the Mumbai police notice, asking the actor to leave the country by October 28, as "drastic".
The actor's plea is likely to be mentioned before a division bench of Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna for urgent hearing, sources said.
The Mumbai police notice was sent after actor Imran Khan was detained on October 10 for participating in a street protest at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
After the demonstration BJP leader Kirit Somaiya lodged a police complaint in which he alleged that the actor, who is a US citizen, breached the Foreigners Act by participating in a political protest.
Later, the FRRO notice cited Imran Khan's US citizenship and flagged his participation in the demonstration as a violation of immigration and foreigners regulations.
Actor Imran Khan, is an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder. An OCI card allows eligible foreign nationals of Indian origin to live in India and enjoy long-term privileges, but does not make them Indian citizens or give them political privileges like voting or contesting elections.
