AIIMS delegation assessing Tripura's health infrastructure, collaboration is on cards

Agartala, June 8 (UNI) Tripura government has expressed its interest to sign an agreement aiming to upgrade healthcare facilities, medical education, and research work with the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
The collaboration aims to boost public healthcare services and enhance medical education at Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital, which collectively serve nearly 40 lakh people in the state, said the state’s health secretary, Kiran Gitte.
A high-level four-member delegation from AIIMS, led by its director Dr Sriniwas, visited AGMC on Saturday and held an extensive meeting with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. During the discussion, CM stressed the collaboration for strengthening service and academic excellence in AGMC and GBP hospital.
Gitte said the initiative falls under a central government directive that encourages AIIMS to support the development of state-run medical colleges and hospitals across the country. The AIIMS team will offer technical guidance on a broad range of areas.
“From increasing the number of doctors and expanding undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats to upgrading medical equipment, introducing super-speciality services, and modernising diagnostic and hospital management systems,” Gitte pointed out.
During the meeting, various key issues were discussed, including the current condition of the institutions, infrastructure gaps, developmental progress over the past two decades, and the expectations of the general public.
The AIIMS delegation will continue its visit over the next couple of days, touring different departments and engaging with medical professionals to gain an in-depth understanding of the hospital’s requirements.
Their findings and recommendations will form the foundation of the MoU. Once the MoU is finalised, the implementation of the collaborative roadmap is expected to begin within the next six months, he said, adding, “The partnership would usher in a new era of medical excellence in Tripura.
Gitte underlined that the Chief Minister insisted on telemedicine service with the experts from AIIMS, which is one of the most important issues in the medical field at present, and launching tele-education and tele-consultation is part of the government's vision.
