AIP demands end to uncertainty, seeks regularisation of daily wagers

Srinagar, Oct 23 (UNI) Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) headed by jailed MP Engineer Rashid on Friday urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to introduce a time-bound, legally sustainable policy for regularising eligible daily wagers, consolidated-pay employees, contractual workers and other temporary staff, saying prolonged uncertainty has left thousands of families anxious about their future.
The demand came amid reports that 1,00,501 workers across various categories have been registered in Jammu and Kashmir. The earlier regularisation rules were repealed in October 2023 and a government committee was constituted in March 2025 to examine the issue. However, a comprehensive replacement framework remains awaited, according to the latest reported position.
AIP chief spokesman Inam un Nabi said the government cannot continue to depend on these employees to run essential public services while leaving their future unresolved.
“Many have spent decades serving government departments without clarity about job security and retirement,” Inam said.
He called for the government to announce a clear timeline for policy implementation, with transparent eligibility criteria for different categories of workers, fair consideration of pending claims and previous departmental recommendations and compliance with binding judicial orders. He also sought priority consideration for eligible employees nearing retirement.
Inam said the issue required a concrete administrative decision that balances the legitimate claims of long-serving workers with applicable recruitment rules and constitutional requirements.
“Workers who have devoted decades to public service deserve clarity and a fair opportunity for regularisation under the applicable rules. The government must bring the prolonged uncertainty to an end through a clear and time-bound framework,” he said.
Jammu and Kashmir Government informed the Legislative Assembly during the Autumn session that a committee constituted in March 2025 was examining the legal, administrative and financial aspects of regularisation, but no fixed timeline had been set for a final decision.
