Akshar launches global running movement, targets 5,000 for Sydney event

Bengaluru, Oct 30 (UNI) Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, founder of Akshar Yoga Kendraa, has launched an international running and wellness movement across eight countries, seeking to turn running into a mass-participation fitness movement, with a target of bringing 5,000 enthusiasts together at a mega event in Sydney in 2027.
Moving beyond conventional fitness programmes, Himalaya Runners aims to build an international community around running, yoga, endurance and healthy living, encouraging people to take up physical activity irrespective of their age, fitness levels or sporting background.
Guided by the philosophy 'Run, Grow, Beyond', the initiative has established a presence in India, Australia, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, South Korea and the Philippines.
The movement has already tested its community-based approach through the 'Keep Moving Challenge' in Australia and Japan. It is now preparing for its next challenge in December 2026, with plans to organise regular running activities across its international network.
The major attraction of its expansion roadmap will be the proposed mega international gathering in Sydney in 2027, which aims to draw 5,000 participants from different parts of the world, including runners, yoga practitioners and fitness enthusiasts.
Explaining the philosophy behind the initiative, Akshar said the idea was to remove the psychological and physical barriers that often prevent people from taking up running.
"Good health is one of the greatest strengths we can develop. Through Himalaya Runners, we want to inspire people to make running a part of their everyday lives, regardless of where they begin. Someone starting with just 500 metres can gradually build the endurance to run 5 or 10 kilometres, or even a marathon. Our vision is to bring people from different countries together through fitness, discipline and a shared commitment to healthier living," he said.
Unlike programmes focused exclusively on competitive running, Himalaya Runners intends to encourage gradual progression, asking beginners to start with manageable distances, even 500 metres, before moving towards 5 km, 10 km and longer-distance events.
The initiative also seeks to integrate running with Himalayan Yoga and holistic wellness practices. While running is intended to improve stamina, strength and endurance, yoga, pranayama and meditation are positioned as complementary practices for physical and mental well-being.
The organisers also plan to strengthen overseas chapters, facilitate participation in organised races and build partnerships to expand community-level running activities.
With its proposed Sydney gathering as a major milestone, Himalaya Runners is seeking to transform individual fitness efforts into a cross-border community movement, using running as a common platform to promote healthier lifestyles and social participation.
