Alai Balai-2026 to Be Held in Hyderabad on October 22

Hyderabad, Oct 21 (UNI) Alai Balai-2026, an annual celebration of Telangana’s culture and traditions, will be held at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally here on Thursday, with union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy among the dignitaries expected to attend.
The event, scheduled to begin at 10.30 am, is being organised by Alai Balai Foundation Chairperson Bandaru Vijayalakshmi, daughter of former Himachal Pradesh Governor and former union Minister Bandaru Dattatraya.
The programme will feature traditional folk performances, Telangana cuisine and the felicitation of distinguished personalities for their contributions to society.
In his invitation, Dattatraya said Alai Balai, which he initiated in 2005, had evolved into a platform bringing together people from different walks of life beyond political and social differences, fostering harmony, camaraderie and brotherhood.
The celebrations will showcase Telangana’s cultural heritage through performances such as Bathukamma, Bonalu, Dappu, Gussadi and Kolatam.
Union and State Ministers, Members of Parliament, public representatives and personalities from various fields are also expected to participate in the event.
Dattatraya, Vijayalakshmi, former MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy and other committee members reviewed the arrangements for the programme on Wednesday.
Dattatraya acknowledged the media’s contribution to documenting and promoting Alai Balai over the years, stating that its coverage had helped preserve Telangana’s cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations.
He invited media representatives to attend the celebrations and contribute to carrying forward the State’s cultural traditions and legacy.
