All bedridden patients in Kerala to get proper care, Govt plans palliative care project

Thiruvananthapuram, June 25 (UNI) As part of ensuring proper care for all bedridden patients in Kerala, the state government is launching two programmes, the Universal Palliative Care Project and the 'Kerala Care' palliative network.
The state-level inauguration of these two social welfare programmes will be conducted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on June 28 at Kalamassery, Ernakulam.
The Universal Palliative Care Project is one of the most significant interventions Kerala is undertaking in the field of palliative care.
Palliative care is one of the ten key focus areas of the Nava Kerala Action Plan's second phase - the Ardhram Mission. As part of this, a comprehensive Palliative Care Action Plan was prepared, under which the Palliative Care Grid has been formed. The objective is to ensure scientifically structured care for all bedridden patients.
To coordinate palliative care services, the ‘Kerala Care Palliative Grid has been set up under the leadership of the Kerala Digital University.
All voluntary organisations and collectives working in the palliative care sector will be integrated into this grid. The Local Self Government Department (LSGD) provides primary registration to volunteer organisations, while the Health Department registers organisations that deliver healthcare services. Currently, 1,043 organisations are part of this grid.
Volunteers who are willing to dedicate at least one hour per week to care for suffering patients are also being integrated into the grid. They can register through the Sannadha Sena portal (https:annadhasena.kerala.gov.in/volunteerregistration) to become part of the palliative care grid.
These registered volunteers receive necessary training. At present, 7,765 volunteers have registered.
All their activities are monitored through the palliative care grid, ensuring that every bedridden patient receives the care they need.
