Andhra: Women are not safe under TDP rule, alleges YSRCP MLC

Visakhapatnam, June 17 (UNI) YSRCP MLC and state Women’s Wing President Varudu Kalyani today condemned the shocking incident in Narayanapuram village of Kuppam, where a woman named Sirisha was tied to a tree and beaten allegedly by a TDP worker over a loan dispute.

Speaking to the media at the party's city office, she said such incidents "bring shame" to the civil society and show that women in Andhra Pradesh are living without even basic protection under the current government.

Kalyani questioned Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s silence, stating that the atrocity occurred in his constituency. She demanded the immediate arrest and strict punishment of the culprits and said the government didn’t even find time to visit or console the victim’s family. She criticised state Home Minister V Anitha for making only a video call instead of visiting the victim personally.

She said women in the state are facing repeated assaults while the government watches silently. Kalyani pointed out that the coalition government itself admitted in the Legislative Council that three crimes against women occur every hour in Andhra Pradesh.

She said Chief Minister N Chandrababu and his Deputy K Pawan Kalyan made promises but failed to take any action when such incidents occurred. Kalyani demanded that the government provide financial help to the victim’s family and conduct a serious review on women’s safety. She warned that if the government failed to act, YSRCP would launch statewide protests demanding justice. UNI DP SSP
