Kakinada, June 17 (UNI) The Municipal sanitary workers, under the aegis of AP Municipal Workers Union, an affiliate of AITUC, staged a dharna in front of the municipal corporation office here on Tuesday in support of their demands, especially implementation of welfare scheme benefits for them.
They raised slogans demanding either to regularise their services or implement the benefits of welfare schemes to them.
Union president Bobbili Srinivasarao led the dharna. Addressing the protesters, AITUC district general secretary Thokala Prasad demanded implementation of the benefits of welfare schemes to municipal sanitary workers and to those working in government offices including GGH, RTC, electricity departments, colleges, Banks as contract and outsourcing basis. "Regularise their services or extend the benefit of welfare schemes or enhance their wages," he said.
Prasad also questioned the propriety in imposing restrictions on welfare schemes which were promised during elections. As a part of election promise, he said, the Thalliki Vandanam scheme benefit should be extended to all without restrictions.
Later they called on the additional commissioner in a delegation and submitted a memorandum listing out their demands.
