Telangana Cyber Police arrest 37 persons; Rs 14.54 Cr refunded to victims in May

Hyderabad, June 17 (UNI) The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police has arrested 37 persons from six states across the country for cyber crimes, and refunded about Rs 14.54 crore to victims during the month of May 2025.
Out of 178 cases across the country involving all the accused, 74 cases were in Telangana, a police release said here on Tuesday.
Accused involvement in cases State Wise: Andhra Pradesh -6, Delhi-7, Karnataka-44, and Maharashtra-29. Manipur-1,Chhattisgarh-5, , Kerala-6, Haryana-6,Odisha-2, Tamilnadu-26, Panjab-5,,Gujarat-16, Bihar-8, Rajasthan-8, Poncicherry-1,Uttarakhand-1, Jharkhand-1,Madhya Pradesh-7, Maharashtra-29, Uttar Pradesh-11, West Bengal-11.
The number of accused arrested state wise are five each from Andhra Pradesh and Delhi; two each from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana while three Rajasthan and 18 from Telangana.
Seized 74 Mobiles Phone, 156 Cheque Books, 11 Debit Cards-11, 22 SIM Cards, 8 Bank Pass Books, 5 Rubber Stamps-5, 115 Shell Company Stamps, 11 Laptops , two OTP Detector, two QR Code Scanners, two PAN Cards, 26 Aadhar Cards and one Swiping Machine from the accused.
In its public advisory, the cyber crime police appealed to the public not to panic if you receive any threatening video calls claiming to be as CBI, RBI, ED, Customs, Judges, cyber crimes police, Narcotics, FedEx, BSNL, TRAI. No government agency or law enforcement officials will make such Skype calls and demand money for clearing the issue. There is no digital arrest and no online enquiry in the system.
The general public is strongly advised to remain vigilant and not to fall prey to messages or friend requests on social media platforms that claim to be from senior government officials and request money.
Always verify the authenticity of such communications through official channels. Never send money to any such persons without proper verification of their genuineness.
Beware Fake investment social media groups -Telegram, WhatsApp, X, Instagram, and Facebook are popping up everywhere promising high returns with little risk.
Don't fall for these scams and always consult a SEBI - approved apps for investment. Always seek advice from a SEBI registered financial advisor before investing.
Fraudsters are calling and sending APK files via SMS, and WhatsApp messages.
Banks never share such messages or APK files via SMS or WhatsApp. Do not click on any such links or download unknown files.
There is a possibility to get a refund of at least part of the lost and PUT ON HOLD amount, if it is reported immediately.
Victims of such Cyber frauds can report immediately on the helpline number 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in, the advisory added.
