AP: Dy. CM inaugurates 6 ‘Nagara Vanams’ virtually

Vijayawada, Oct 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan here today inaugurated six newly established ‘Nagara Vanams’ virtually from his camp office.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM reiterated that the government aimed to promote ecotourism to improve livelihood opportunities of tribal people and steps were taken to develop tourism from Nallamala to Maredumilli, Bapatla beach to Kotaplpakonda. “We are working with the noble intention of bringing about positive changes in the lives of the tribal people,” he said.

Pawan Kalyan further said, "Under the 'Nagara Vana Yojana' (City Forest Scheme), the State previously had 19 city forests, with the inauguration of six new ones, the total number of city forests in the State has risen to 25. Developed across 305 hectares at a cost of Rs 13 crore, these city forests are not merely areas for planting saplings, but serve as a gateway to bring people closer to nature."

"Urban forests feature amenities such as cycling and walking tracks, children's play areas, and gym equipment. We are developing these spaces—characterized by a pleasant atmosphere and pristine natural beauty—into hubs for health, recreation, and nature awareness" he highlighted.

While the coastal areas of Bapatla and Chirala serve as tourism-oriented forests, Kotappakonda radiates a spiritual aura, he said, noting that the urban forests being developed at Vinukonda, Devarampadu, and Macherla promise to be attractive destinations.
“The growth of eco-tourism in the State will create employment opportunities for tribal youth. The Velugodu Jungle Safari offers a unique experience. Through Maredumilli trekking and the Aroma Canopy Walk, we will bring the forest beauty and natural fragrances of the Eastern Ghats closer to the public. We also aim to showcase tribal culture to the people,” he asserted.

The Deputy CM released two books ‘Wild Ornamental Plants of the Nallamala Forest of Andhra Pradesh’ and the Tree Translocation Manual, which were brought out by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department.

The Forest Department officials received a 'Praman' certificate from the Deputy CM. The certification recognizes the sustainable management practices adopted by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation in the 'Eucalyptus Pulpwood Plantation' sector—a first-of-its-kind achievement in the country.

Minister Gottipati Ravikumar, AP Green Executive Committee chairman K Nagendra Babu, Chief Secretary of forest and environment Kantilal Dande, MLAs and officials were present.
