Kakinada: BJP lashes out at YSRCP over move to stall local body polls

Kakinada, Oct 6 (UNI) The BJP Kakinada district unit on Tuesday lashed out at the YSRCP over its alleged move to stall the local body elections by approaching the Supreme Court.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP district president Bikkina Visweswara Rao and senior leader Duvvuri Subrahmanyam said it was unfair for the YSRCP to seek directions to the Andhra Pradesh government against conducting local body elections until completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
They alleged that the move was aimed at preventing the release of Rs 28,000 crore in funds to Andhra Pradesh under the 16th Finance Commission.
The BJP leaders said political parties should approach people by contesting elections irrespective of the outcome.
They claimed that the YSRCP's decision to approach the courts indicated that the party had conceded defeat even before the elections.
They said the YSRCP had approached the Supreme Court after failing to get relief from the High Court.
The BJP leaders noted that local bodies form an important part of India's three-tier administrative system and said courts would not ordinarily stall elections without valid and strong reasons.
They alleged that the YSRCP would face a setback not only in the courts but also in the "people's court" through elections.
