AP: GCC steps up efforts to secure global recognition for Araku coffee

Visakhapatnam, Oct 1 (UNI) The Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) is intensifying efforts to secure international recognition for Araku coffee and improve market opportunities and incomes for tribal farmers, GCC Chairman Kidari Sravan Kumar said today.
Speaking at a special programme organised at the Arabica Araku Valley Coffee Cafe at the GCC head office here, to mark International Coffee Day, Sravan Kumar said tribal farmers were working hard to cultivate Araku coffee and the corporation was taking steps to promote it in international markets.
He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was extending support to the international promotion of Araku coffee.
The mention of Araku coffee by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat programme had also helped increase its recognition across the country, he mentioned.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan was also playing a key role in promoting the coffee, he added.
Sravan Kumar said Araku coffee had been showcased in international cities, including Paris and Davos, helping it gain wider recognition.
The growing visibility was creating better marketing opportunities and the potential for additional income for tribal farmers, he added.
As part of the International Coffee Day observance, free Araku coffee was distributed to customers visiting the cafe.
GCC General Manager (Administration) Sandhya Rani, General Manager (Finance) U ma Devi and other officials participated in the programme.
