Hyderabad, Oct 1 (UNI) The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has registered a 4 per cent growth in coal transportation during the first half of the current financial year, transporting 299.4 lakh tonnes of coal against 287.6 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
It has significantly increased coal supplies to thermal power plants in Telangana, transporting 198.2 lakh tonnes during the April-September period, compared with 159.1 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period last year, marking a growth of 24.58 per cent, the Mining company said in a release today.
SCCL has prioritised the state's power requirements in line with the directions of the State Government, increasing supplies to several thermal power stations across Telangana.
Coal supplies to Kothagudem Thermal Power Station rose by 50.76 per cent to 39.8 lakh tonnes from 26.4 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
Supplies to Yadadri Thermal Power Station increased by 57.67 per cent to 33.9 lakh tonnes from 21.5 lakh tonnes, while deliveries to Bhadradri Thermal Power Station at Manuguru rose by 25.13 per cent to 24.4 lakh tonnes from 19.5 lakh tonnes.
The Mining Company also transported 26.6 lakh tonnes of coal to Singareni Thermal Power Station, registering a growth of 27.27 per cent.
Supplies to NTPC Telangana increased to 25.3 lakh tonnes from 19.4 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year. However, coal supplies to NTPC Ramagundam stood at 42.7 lakh tonnes, compared with 43.5 lakh tonnes in the first half of the previous financial year.
In view of El Niño conditions and the need to meet the state's power demand, SCCL has been coordinating with power sector institutions and implementing special measures to improve coal production and transportation.
The company is taking steps, in accordance with the directions of the State and Central governments, to ensure adequate coal supplies to thermal power plants.
SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti is reviewing coal transportation and production targets through daily interactions with general managers of all areas.
Five senior officials have also been assigned special responsibilities to monitor coal transportation and ensure uninterrupted supplies to thermal power stations.
The company considers meeting Telangana's power requirements a moral responsibility and is accordingly prioritising supplies to thermal power plants within the state.
Dr. Jyoti said SCCL was following a planned approach to achieve its annual targets of 620 lakh tonnes of coal production and 650 lakh tonnes of coal transportation.
