Telangana lawmakers unite to boost India’s solar energy goals

Hyderabad, June 17 (UNI) In a concerted effort to support India’s clean energy transition, Swaniti Initiative organised a high-level closed-door convening on “The Role of Policymakers in India’s Solarisation Journey” at a private hostel in city on Tuesday.

The event witnessed the participation of prominent leaders from Telangana, including Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs), from various political parties.

The exclusive session served as a collaborative platform for elected representatives to deliberate on the crucial role they play in accelerating the solar energy transition, particularly at the sub-national level.
The discussions highlighted the need to unlock the full potential of government schemes that promote clean energy adoption and empower communities through localised solar solutions.

Swaniti Initiative, a governance-focused organisation with over a decade of experience in supporting public representatives and state governments on climate action, organised the event as part of its ongoing mission to drive evidence-based policy, offer technical advice, and provide implementation support.
Operating across multiple Indian states and six countries globally, Swaniti has been instrumental in fostering impactful on-ground solarisation initiatives.

Ms Uma Bhattacharya, Trustee of Swaniti Initiative, was present at the convening and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting Telangana’s efforts towards clean energy.

The active participation of leaders from different political backgrounds underscored a growing consensus on the urgency of transitioning to renewable energy and the central role that policymakers must play in shaping India’s sustainable energy future.

The event was attended by several MPs, MLAs, and MLCs from Telangana, reflecting the state’s collective political will to champion climate action and support India’s solarisation journey, a statement said.
