AP: Special teams to carryout sanitation works in cyclone-hit areas

Vijayawada, Oct 29 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development K Pawan Kalyan has set up special task force teams to improve sanitation in areas affected by Cyclone Arnab and to take proactive measures to prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases.

An official release here on Thursday said that these special teams will focus on tasks such as clearing water that has accumulated in low-lying areas of villages due to the cyclone, cleaning drains, and conducting bleaching and chlorination processes.

Measures will be taken to improve sanitation, particularly in low-lying areas and locations where water has stagnated amidst human settlements. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan directed the concerned officials to focus specifically on proactive preventive measures, as heavy rains and floodwaters have created unhygienic conditions in villages, raising the risk of an outbreak of infectious diseases.

He said that arrangements had been made for special teams to work on the ground, in coordination with the local staff of the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development departments.

The Deputy Chief Minister also formed special water-testing teams to provide safe drinking water to people in cyclone-affected villages. For this purpose, 48 technical personnel have been assigned to the Konaseema and West Godavari districts. These teams consist of Divisional Engineers (DEs), Assistant Engineers (AEs), chemists, microbiologists, and field assistants.

These teams will conduct field visits to villages to examine drinking water sources and test the quality of the water being supplied, right on the spot. If any quality-related issues are detected during these tests, the teams will immediately inform the relevant authorities and alert the public.

They will also ensure that any identified flaws in the water supply are rectified promptly. These teams have been established with the primary objective of taking proactive measures to prevent people from falling ill due to the consumption of contaminated water.
