AP: TDP State Chief warns of stringent action against YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy for inciting activists, highhanded behaviour

Vijayawada, Oct 16 (UNI) Responding to the violent incident which took place in Rayachoti and Punganuru today during filing of nominations for the local body polls, Telugu Desam Party State President Palla Srinivasa Rao has made it clear that the alleged high-handedness of YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy and his associates would not be tolerated.
He called for firm action to curb attempts to disrupt law and order and intimidate the public and government officials, asserting that those responsible for such incidents must be dealt with in accordance with the law. He warned that no one would be allowed to indulge in lawlessness under the protection of political influence.
Palla Srinivasa Rao alleged that Mithun Reddy and his father Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy had faced accusations of high-handed conduct in the past as well. Demanding a comprehensive investigation into the developments surrounding the Punganur incident, he called upon the authorities to identify those responsible and initiate appropriate legal action against them.
The TDP State Chief urged the TDP leaders and cadres to exercise restraint and conduct themselves in a democratic manner. Regardless of attempts at provocation, party workers must respect the law and refrain from any action that could disturb public order, he said.
Criticising the alleged excesses of the YSRCP during local body elections over the previous five years, Srinivasa Rao said opposition parties had been denied a level playing field through coercive tactics and the misuse of unanimous election victories. He urged the authorities to ensure that the forthcoming elections are conducted freely and impartially, without scope for such irregularities.
Srinivasa Rao underscored the responsibility of officials to uphold democratic principles at every stage of the electoral process, from the filing of nominations to the counting of votes. The people’s verdict must prevail in elections, not intimidation or coercion, he asserted. Palla Srinivasa Rao made it clear that anyone found violating the law must face appropriate action.
Notably, during the first day of filing nominations for the urban local body elections, clashes took place between workers of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the main opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), resulting in multiple injuries, damage to property, and vehicles being set ablaze.
Tensions escalated when Rajampet MP and YSRCP Lok Sabha floor leader P.V. Midhun Reddy arrived at a local nomination centre alongside party candidates.
A violent standoff ensued as workers from both parties came face-to-face and clashes ensued.
