Vijayawada, Oct 28 (UNI) The Zilla and Mandal Parishad elections in Andhra Pradesh have been rescheduled in the wake of the Arnab cyclonic storm.
In view of the cyclonic storm, the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) elections will be held on November 5 and the repolling, if necessary, will be held on November 6, according to a notification issued by State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Puneetha on Wednesday. The counting of votes would be taken up on November 7.
The ZP and MP elections were earlier scheduled to be held on November 3 and the counting of votes on November 5.
The State Election Commission held discussions with District Collectors and District Election Officers regarding the cyclone-affected conditions in certain districts of the state. After assessing the situation and taking into account the assurances provided by them, the State Election Commission has decided that there is no need to postpone the polling for the Urban Local Bodies. Accordingly, the polling for the Urban Local Body elections will be held as scheduled on November 1.
