Crime Branch seizes luxury bike, digital evidence from judge’s residence

Kochi, Oct 28 (UNI) The Crime Branch has seized a luxury motorcycle and digital evidence from the residence of an Additional District Judge in Aluva during an extensive search in connection with the fatal Cheranalloor road accident involving his 17-year-old son.
The search, conducted on the directions of the Kerala High Court, continued for nearly seven hours from Tuesday night to the early hours of Wednesday. Investigators also collected CCTV footage and other material as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and the teenager’s alleged use of vehicles.
The police suspect that the minor, who allegedly drove a Mercedes-Benz car that fatally knocked down scooter rider Jayabalakrishnan, had also been using the seized motorcycle. CCTV footage showing him riding a bike has been collected for examination.
Jayabalakrishnan, who ran a roadside eatery, died after the car allegedly rammed into his scooter on Container Road in Cheranalloor in the early hours of Sunday. He was returning home after closing his shop.
The investigation has gathered momentum following widespread criticism of the initial handling of the case. Four police personnel were suspended over alleged lapses in the investigation, while the case was transferred to the District Crime Branch.
The police have initiated legal proceedings to seek cancellation of the bail granted to the minor by the Juvenile Justice Board. The victim’s family is also preparing to approach the courts, seeking cancellation of the teenager’s bail and stringent action against his father, the registered owner of the car.
The family has demanded departmental action against the judge, including his removal from service. Investigators are examining CCTV footage, vehicle-related documents and digital evidence to establish the sequence of events and verify statements given during the probe.
