Arunachal Guv calls for greater sensitivity towards elderly

Itanagar, Oct 1 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik called for greater awareness about the importance of geriatric care and increased sensitivity towards the elderly while flagging off a solo cycling expedition from Lok Bhavan here on Thursday on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons.
The Governor said the wellbeing of senior citizens should remain an important concern for families and society, stressing the need to ensure dignity, care, respect and emotional support for the elderly.
He emphasised that geriatric care requires greater attention and awareness, particularly as ageing often brings specific healthcare and social needs. He urged families, communities and institutions to work together to create a supportive environment in which senior citizens feel valued, secure and respected.
The Governor also called upon the younger generation to recognise the experience, knowledge and wisdom of senior citizens and ensure their meaningful participation in society.
The solo cycling expedition by Abhinav Singh was flagged off from Lok Bhavan as part of an initiative aimed at promoting fitness, adventure and awareness.
The Governor appreciated the cyclist Abhinav Singh for undertaking the 3,000 km expedition from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat in memory of his late grandparents, seeking to combine the personal tribute with a message on the care and well-being of senior citizens.
Parnaik said such initiatives encourage a healthy and active lifestyle while inspiring others to take up physical activities. He also highlighted the importance of fitness and perseverance, particularly among the youth, and encouraged people to adopt healthy lifestyles.
The expedition is expected to cover a challenging route and showcase the spirit of endurance and determination. The Governor wished the cyclist a safe and successful journey and urged people to use such initiatives to spread awareness on health, fitness and social responsibility.
