Arunachal launches Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan with statewide Krishi Rath Yatra

Itanagar, May 29 (UNI) In a landmark event underscoring Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to agricultural transformation, Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu on Thursday launched the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) 2025 at a ceremonial function marked by the flagging off of Krishi Raths.
These mobile agricultural outreach units will travel across the state’s villages, bringing agricultural knowledge, technology, and government schemes directly to farmers' doorsteps across the state's diverse terrain.
Calling it a “proud and historic moment”, Minister Wangsu said Arunachal Pradesh is proud to join the nation in this transformative campaign under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“This is not just a campaign, but a Jan Andolan—a people’s movement—powered by the collective efforts of scientists, field officers, financial institutions, SHGs, FPOs, and above all, our dedicated farmers,” said Wangsu.
The Minister expressed gratitude to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for conceptualizing the initiative that promises to reshape India's agricultural landscape, and praised Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for preparing the state for this movement.
The Northeastern state has set an ambitious target to reach over 3.25 lakh farmers across 1,380 villages during the two-week campaign, in a coordinated effort by the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, and Fisheries, along with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and financial institutions.
Minister Wangsu highlighted agriculture and allied sectors as the core focus of the state's development agenda, revealing substantial achievements over the past five years. “The state has allocated Rs 2,000 crore under the Atma Nirbhar Scheme, with 50% contribution from the state government, directly benefiting more than 52,000 individuals and SHGs, creating ripples of prosperity across our rural landscape,” he informed.
He reaffirmed the state’s aspiration to become the “Orchid Capital of India”, and stated that over 20,500 hectares have been successfully certified for organic production, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as a leader in sustainable agriculture. He highlighted Mission Arun Himveer, an initiative launched with Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) and ITBP, which is gaining momentum in border villages with a revolving fund of Rs 4 crore.
He said the upcoming Integrated Processing Unit at Wakro, Namsai, promises to be a game-changing investment in value addition and agri-processing capabilities, creating employment opportunities while ensuring farmers receive fair prices through enhanced processing and packaging.
Strategic infrastructure projects include Perishable Cargo Centers at Donyi Polo Airport and Tezu Airport, aimed at boosting agri-exports. A marketing roadmap for eight GI-tagged products is also underway.
Wangsu also announced that the Government of Arunachal Pradesh has finalized the Agriculture and Horticulture Policies 2025–2035, stating that these forward-looking policies will guide the state's Agriculture and Horticulture Departments for the next decade, redefining priorities and establishing a clear roadmap for sustainable growth and farmer welfare.
The state has also launched the Arunachal Millet and Buckwheat Mission (2025–26) to promote traditional, climate-resilient crops. Oil palm cultivation is expanding across nine districts, backed by processing plants from 3F Oil Palm Ltd and Patanjali Food Ltd at Roing and Niglok.
The Minister emphasized that the Government of India's focus on natural farming aligns perfectly with Arunachal Pradesh's traditional practices. "Our farmers have been practicing natural farming by default, and this national recognition will serve as tremendous motivation for our agricultural community," he noted.
“The fields of Arunachal Pradesh are ready. Our farmers are eager to learn and lead. Let us make Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025 a resounding success,” Wangsu concluded.
MLAs Tapi Darang, Chau Zingnu Namchoom, and Oken Tayeng, along with Director of ATARI G Kadirvel, Commissioner Bidol Tayeng, and Secretaries Hage Tari and Koj Rinya, were present at the launch event.
