Bengal CM Mamata hits out against PM Modi for 'false campaign' against her govt

Kolkata, May 30 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what she termed as his "vicious and false campaign in Alipurduar" yesterday against her TMC government's "significant development works" in the North Bengal region.
"Yesterday a vicious and false campaign was there at Alipurduar in North Bengal from a self-serving and politically motivated point of view for narrow power gains,
"This was a campaign that attempted to downplay and erase out the significant development works of our government for the people in Alipurduar district," Banerjee said in a statement and produced a long
list of works done by her government.
She alleged that the "untruths" were served from the high quarters of the Prime Minister and to counter his
claims she enumerated the list of developmental work including, declaring Alipurduar as a separate
district carved out of Jalpaiguri district in 2014.
"The blatant untruths were served from the high quarters of the Hon'ble Prime Minister."
"Therefore, I want to share some facts and data relating to our actual impactful initiatives for the people of Alipurduar," she said in a statement.
On Thursday, hours after the PM's address, the TMC's supreme leader challenged the PM to face a live debate on TV about the issue of development of the state and said the BJP-led Centre headed by the PM was playing "political holi" at a time when the Opposition was representing India in the global outreach mission against terrorism.
She said PM Modi was trying to "defame" Bengal at a time when a Trinamool Congress MP was defending the country on the international stage as part of a global delegation on Operation Sindoor.
She also countered the BJP's claims of lawlessness, and pointed to controversies in BJP-ruled states in the
country.
