ASI held by Odisha Vigilance for accepting bribe

Bhubaneswar, May 22 (UNI) Odisha Vigilance officials on Thursday apprehended Pradeep Kumar Behera, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Tigria Police Station, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000 from a complainant to settle a dispute with a co-villager.
According to Vigilance sources, counter reports were filed by both parties involved in the dispute, which was later resolved through a compromise.
However, after the compromise, the ASI allegedly demanded a bribe from the complainant in exchange for not taking further action based on the counter report.
Acting on a complaint filed with the Vigilance authorities, officials laid a trap and apprehended the ASI. The entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations linked to Behera, focusing on assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
A case has been registered against the ASI under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is currently underway.
