Asian Games Gold: Odisha CM announces Rs 11 lakh each for women hockey players

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced cash awards of Rs 11 lakh each for members of the Indian women’s hockey team and Rs 5.5 lakh each for the support staff in recognition of their historic gold medal victory at the 2026 Asian Games.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of Odisha’s sustained contribution to the growth of Indian hockey over the years. The state has emerged as one of the country’s major hockey hubs, with substantial investment in infrastructure, grassroots development and support for players and national teams.
Odisha has hosted major international hockey tournaments, including the Men’s and Women’s Hockey World Cups, and has supported the Indian teams as an official sponsor. The state has also developed a network of synthetic hockey pitches and training facilities across districts, while promoting the sport through grassroots programmes and talent development.
The state’s association with hockey has also been strengthened by the emergence of several players from Odisha in Indian national teams, particularly from tribal-dominated districts where hockey has traditionally enjoyed a strong following.
The CM Majhi congratulated the team for its performance, determination and commitment, saying the victory had brought pride to the nation. He also reaffirmed the state government’s continued support for Indian hockey and sporting excellence.
