Ayodhya Deepotsav 2026: 2,147 archaks to perform Saryu maha aarti in bid for new world record

Ayodhya, Nov 2 (UNI) Ayodhya is set to witness a spectacular display of faith and devotion during Deepotsav 2026, with 2,147 archaks coming together to perform the Saryu Maha Aarti on November 7. Scheduled for half an hour along the city's iconic riverfront, the grand ritual will build on last year's Guinness World Records achievement, adding another major attraction to Uttar Pradesh's flagship festival of lights.
Scheduled for approximately 5.20 pm to 5.50 pm, the Maha Aarti will extend from Laxman Kila Ghat to Naya Ghat and Ram Ki Paidi. Vedic chanting and simultaneous worship will bring the focus to the Saryu during the evening celebrations.
Last year, 2,128 archaks and vedacharyas performed the ritual together, earning a Guinness World Record. Participation has grown from 1,121 in 2024 to the planned 2,147 this year, nearly doubling across three editions.
“Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s guidance, Deepotsav has grown through public participation and cultural traditions since its beginning in 2017. Each edition has added a new dimension to the celebrations,” Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said.
Preparations cover 56 ghats, with around 30 lakh diyas planned to illuminate Ayodhya on November 7. The November 5 to 7 programme will also feature international Ramlila performances and a Ramayan themed aerial display involving 2,100 drones.
For visitors, the Maha Aarti offers an opportunity to experience Ayodhya’s river worship collectively, with the rituals and chanting forming part of the festival’s wider celebration of light.
“Our aim is for pilgrims and tourists to experience Ayodhya’s spiritual traditions and cultural grandeur and return with lasting memories,” said Amrit Abhijat, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Religious Affairs.
