Saini urges legislators to uphold constitutional values, use social media responsibly

Panchkula, Nov 2 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, on Monday, called on present and former legislators to uphold constitutional values, act responsibly on social media and engage young people in Constitution dialogues, stressing that Haryana’s development and public welfare should remain above political differences.
Addressing a Constitution Fortnight conference of present and former legislators in Panchkula, Saini said that while political views may differ, the common objective of all public representatives should be the progress of Haryana and the welfare of its people.
The conference brought together democratic generations of Haryana, which completed 60 years of its formation on November 1, 1966.
Saini welcomed Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Deputy Speaker Krishan Lal Middha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mahipal Dhanda, ministers and legislators, both current and former.
The CM said Haryana began its journey with limited resources and major requirements in basic infrastructure. Over the decades, public representatives have contributed to the development of education, healthcare, drinking water, irrigation, electricity, roads, and administration.
He said the ideals enshrined in the Constitution’s Preamble—justice, liberty, equality and fraternity—must be reflected in the decisions and conduct of public representatives. Ensuring that every eligible citizen receives rights without discrimination strengthens equality, while hearing the concerns of weaker sections reinforces justice. Mutual respect, he said, strengthens fraternity.
Saini described the legislature as a key institution for making laws, approving the use of public funds and holding the government accountable. Meaningful questions, Question Hour, calling-attention motions and budget discussions can help resolve public issues, he said, adding that effective participation requires preparation, study and continuous contact with people.
He said taking up issues raised by the Opposition in the public interest was a democratic responsibility. Criticism and constructive suggestions, he added, can strengthen democracy.
Referring to the influence of social media, Saini said that in the digital age, the words and actions of public representatives reach people instantly, with young people closely observing their conduct. He urged legislators to communicate responsibly and set a positive example.
“One word can save a youth from going down the wrong path,” he said, calling on public representatives to encourage young people to stay away from drugs. He also stressed the importance of cleanliness in preventing disease.
The CM urged present and former legislators to organise Constitution dialogues with young people in their constituencies and take the message beyond conference halls to villages, schools and local communities.
He said Haryana must continue to focus on quality education, skill development, employment, modern agriculture and improved healthcare. Development, he said, should go hand in hand with social trust and dignity.
Saini thanked Om Birla for attending the conference and called upon legislators to uphold the dignity of the House, strengthen public dialogue and reflect constitutional values through their conduct.
