Backward Communities protest against Kerala PSC over reservation violations, backdoor appointments

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 6 (UNI) The Most Backward Communities Federation (MBCF) on Tuesday took out a march to the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) headquarters here, demanding an overhaul of the reservation and recruitment system and an end to alleged reservation violations, backdoor appointments and irregularities in rank lists.
The federation, representing unrepresented, occupational and disadvantaged backward communities included in the Kerala Government's OBC list, particularly raised concerns over the reservation available to Other Backward Hindu (OBH) communities, which do not have a separately prescribed reservation percentage.
The MBCF alleged that the existing reservation mechanism, including rotation, sub-rotation and roster arrangements, was resulting in the denial of legitimate opportunities to sections of the backward communities.
It specifically sought an end to what it termed manipulation of the 20-unit roster system and demanded that the entire reservation and recruitment framework be reviewed and made more transparent and scientific.
The federation also demanded that complaints concerning alleged irregularities in PSC recruitments be brought under the scope of the Special Investigation Team constituted to probe PSC-related irregularities.
It called for comprehensive revision of the reservation and merit rules so that every stage of recruitment, from inviting applications for a post to the preparation and publication of rank lists and the issue of advice memos, could be carried out in accordance with clearly defined legal provisions.
The march commenced from the PMG office and proceeded to the PSC headquarters, with a large number of members of various organisations affiliated to the MBCF participating.
A dharna was held outside the PSC office following the march. MBCF president S. Kuttappan Chettiar inaugurated the protest, while general secretary G. Nisheekanth presided.
MBCF treasurer Balaji Reddy and organising secretary Vineesh Sukumaran were among those who addressed the gathering.
Representatives of several constituent organisations also spoke, including Adv M. Ravindran of Vaduka Samudaya Samskarika Samithi, M. Ramachandran Chettiar of Kerala Vanika Vaisya Sangham, Dr Shaji Kumar of Kerala Ganaka Maha Sabha, E.S. Radhakrishna Nair of Kerala Veluthedathu Nair Samajam, N.K.
