Farmer ID drive launched in Arunachal; six districts covered in pilot phase

Itanagar, Oct 5 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh has launched a Farmer ID registration drive aimed at creating a verified database of farmers and improving the delivery of agricultural schemes and services.
Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu on Monday launched the Farmer ID Generating Camp at Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district and appealed to farmers to participate in the registration process and cooperate with departmental officials engaged in farm mapping and data collection.
Speaking at the programme, attended by farmers, Gaon Burahs, public representatives and officials, Wangsu said the initiative under the AgriStack framework would provide reliable information on farmers, their farms and agricultural activities.
He said the database would help the government understand the farming community better and facilitate more effective planning and targeted delivery of agricultural assistance.
“This is a paradigm shift in the journey of our agriculture sector. Farmer ID is one of the biggest exercises being undertaken in the country to build a proper agricultural information system,” Wangsu said.
The minister stressed that the initiative would also strengthen transparency in the delivery of government benefits by helping identify genuine beneficiaries. He said verified records would provide farmers greater visibility over their information and help prevent misuse of their identities or fraudulent claims.
Wangsu, however, clarified that the Farmer ID was not a document establishing ownership of land.
“Farmer ID is not a land ownership document, nor does it establish legal ownership of any land. It is a farmer identification record intended to support the delivery of agricultural services and benefits,” he said.
He urged PRI members, Gaon Burahs and other community representatives to create awareness about the registration exercise in their respective villages and ensure that eligible farmers are not excluded due to lack of information.
The minister said the initiative was part of the broader efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve support systems for farmers in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Officials said the registration exercise is being undertaken initially in six pilot districts—Tawang, Pakke Kessang, Lower Subansiri, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley and Namsai. The exercise will subsequently be extended to the remaining 21 districts based on the experience and progress of the pilot phase.
Wangsu expressed confidence that the farmer database would help make agricultural administration more responsive and enable more efficient and transparent delivery of government assistance across the state.
