Bengal: Baguiati family alleges sexual assault, blackmail of 13-year-old daughter: police begin probe

Kolkata, Oct 27 (UNI) A family in Baguiati has lodged a police complaint alleging that their 13-year-old daughter was drugged and sexually assaulted after being taken to a hotel in the Bandel area. The family has also alleged that videos of the incident were recorded and later used to threaten and blackmail them. Baguiati police have started an investigation.
According to the family, the girl left home around 3.30 pm on October 24 to meet her friend Sukanya Das in Birati. When she failed to return, her mother called her at around 8.30 pm. The girl reportedly said she was in Barrackpore with Sukanya and would be home by 10.30 pm or 11 pm.
When the girl had still not returned by 11.30 pm, her mother called again. An unidentified man allegedly answered, claiming that he had found the girl crying on the street and had lent her his phone.
The family said the girl sent her mother a message at 12.06 am indicating that she was in danger. In the message, she reportedly said Sukanya had taken her to the house of a man named Rick.
According to sources, a room was booked at Hotel Gitanjali on Delhi Road in Sugandha, Polba, at 3.50 am on Sunday. CCTV footage reportedly shows the girl arriving at the reception with a young woman and two young men. An Aadhaar card belonging to another woman was allegedly submitted to book rooms 302 and 303. One of the men was seen carrying a bottle of alcohol, sources said.
Four people were seen leaving the hotel at around 8.20 am and 8.45 am, according to the account of the footage.
The family further alleged that Debjit Sarkar called the girl’s mother and assured her that the teenager was safe. He later claimed to have visited the location, where a caretaker reportedly told him that a four-wheeler had left about 10 minutes earlier. Debjit allegedly suggested that the girl was returning home in the vehicle.
The girl returned home later on Sunday, her family said. She was reportedly crying and appeared deeply distressed. She allegedly told her mother that she had been taken in a vehicle and forced to consume a substance mixed with a drink before being subjected to physical and sexual abuse. The family also alleged that she was forced to take an emergency contraceptive pill.
The family has named Sukanya Das, Debjit Sarkar and Kunal Kumar Raut in its allegations, claiming that they recorded videos of the girl and later used them to threaten the family. The family said the alleged threats initially made them reluctant to approach the police.
Meanwhile, hotel sources said a review of the CCTV footage had not revealed anything unusual, raising further questions about the events surrounding the case. Police are investigating the allegations.
