Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari launches attack on Humayun Kabir, TMC at Rejinagar rally

Kolkata, Oct 1 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) founder and MLA Humayun Kabir and the Trinamool Congress while campaigning for BJP candidate Shakharav Sarkar in the Rejinagar Assembly constituency.
Taking a swipe at Kabir, who was elected from Naoda, Adhikari questioned what the MLA had achieved for his constituency during the past five months.
“Humayun sahib went to the Assembly from Naoda. What has he given the people of Naoda in these five months? He could not even lay a single brick. He will not be able to do so in the next 55 months either,” Adhikari said at the campaign meeting.
The Chief Minister also targeted Kabir over his recent remarks wishing for Adhikari’s death. Referring to the statement, Adhikari asked the gathering whether it would vote for someone who had made such remarks against a political opponent.
“Political battles take place and will continue. There will be exchanges, arguments, discussions and criticism. One will win and another will lose. But Humayun sahib is saying that every Friday he prays for me to go to the Almighty soon, like Ajit Pawar. Even if someone is my political adversary, I do not use such language,” Adhikari said.
Kabir had reportedly said at a Press conference on Sunday that he would pray for Adhikari to leave the world soon and that his “ticket to the above” should be booked quickly. He had also said that arrogance would eventually fall and everyone would have to leave the world.
Adhikari described Kabir as a “traitor” and said the people of Rejinagar would decide his political fate.
“Your own people have moved away from you because you betrayed Adhir Choudhury, who gave you your political identity, by stabbing him in the back,” Adhikari said.
Recalling Kabir’s earlier political affiliations, Adhikari alleged that he had shifted between different political formations. He said Kabir had once stood in the area as a minister when the Trinamool Congress, under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, had questioned whether he wanted to be an MLA or a minister.
According to Adhikari, Kabir had subsequently received political shelter from Mukul Roy and later joined the BJP, before moving to the Trinamool Congress. He accused Kabir of having “betrayed” each of these political platforms.
Adhikari also alleged that Kabir had pursued politics by foregrounding religious places and using divisive issues.
The Chief Minister, meanwhile, launched a broader attack on the Trinamool Congress and its rival factions. Referring to his earlier declaration on May 5 that the Trinamool Congress would disappear from Bengal’s political landscape, he said that 150 days later neither the party nor its familiar symbol had political relevance.
“On the midnight of May 5, I had said that there would be no trace of the Trinamool Congress. After 150 days, there is neither the jora phool nor the Trinamool Congress,” Adhikari said.
He also referred to the rival formations using the Trinamool name, saying voters would have to distinguish between the “original” and the “duplicate”.
“Mamata AITC is like the headlight of a bullock cart, and there is another Democratic TMC. You will not find their names in Rejinagar, nor across Bengal,” he said.
Adhikari urged voters to deliver their verdict through the ballot box, saying, “As you sow, so shall you reap.”
