Bengal: Congress sweeps Kushmore High Madrasa panel election in Birbhum

Rampurhat, Sep 21 (UNI) The Indian National Congress achieved a clean sweep in the Kushmore High Madrasa Management Committee elections under the Nalhati Assembly constituency in West Bengal's Birbhum district, winning all six contested seats.
The decisive victory was officially declared following a prolonged, highly secure and meticulously monitored counting process.
The latest election results in Nalhati in Birbhum district are significant as they give an indication of a possible shift in opposition-controlled minority votes in the state from the TMC to the Congress, political analysts said.
A total of 14 candidates from four prominent political factions — the CPM, Trinamool Congress (TMC), BJP and Congress — contested the management committee seats. Following the announcement of the 6-0 sweep, local political tensions escalated rapidly, triggering a fierce war of words between the TMC and Congress camps.
Taking a direct swipe at the ruling party, local Congress leader Ashiq Iqbal alleged that the CPM and TMC had formed a covert alliance to field joint candidates across all six seats, while the BJP contested only two. He asserted that the electorate ultimately rejected this “evil alliance and appeasement politics” to place their complete trust in the Congress.
Conversely, Nalhati’s TMC MLA Rajendra Prasad Singh flatly denied any collusion with the CPM. He fired back at the opposition, countering that it was actually the Congress that had forged a secret understanding with the BJP to manipulate and secure its victory. Rajendra Prasad Singh is the sitting TMC MLA from Nalhati.
Meanwhile, jubilant Congress workers launched widespread celebrations across Nalhati. Expressing his enthusiasm, District Congress President Sanjay Adhikari stated that amid the current political chaos surrounding the TMC, citizens are recognising the Congress as the sole viable alternative — a sentiment he believes this decisive madrasa election victory clearly validates.
On the other side, local BJP leader Baneshwar Sahu dismissed the TMC MLA’s conspiracy claims, clarifying that the BJP had fielded a candidate in just one seat, the Lok Janshakti Party contested another, and their front secured 56 votes.
The five districts in West Bengal with the largest minority populations are Murshidabad, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Birbhum and South 24 Parganas. UNI NN NST CDS
